AEW Star Believes Kenny Omega Is Past Best

Kenny Omega AEW

Kenny Omega’s International Title reign could be in trouble.

Back in April, Kyle Fletcher began the Owen Hart Cup in fine style with a win over Mark Briscoe. However, his dreams of a shot at the AEW World Championship at All In Texas were left in tatters by a semi-final defeat to “Hangman” Adam Page.

Since then, Fletcher has been forced to re-evaluate his short-term goals, even if he remains intent on landing championship gold.

During an appearance on Good Karma Wrestling, Fletcher explained why he needs to become a champion to back up his recent strong performances.

“I need the accolades to back that up, so I think championship gold is definitely the way I’m looking. There are a couple of nice shiny belts that I like the look of, namely, maybe the International Championship held by one of the greatest of all time, Kenny Omega.

I think he is well past his prime, I think I am the new generation’s Kenny Omega, that best bout machine. So, I would love to do that in a big big stadium.”

Kenny Omega More Cautious Than Ever

In a new interview of his own, Kenny Omega has admitted that he’s changed his approach both in and out of the ring since being diagnosed with diverticulitis.

Omega was diagnosed with the condition back in December 2023, and it subsequently kept him out of the ring until January 2025. While discussing how the illness had affected him, Omega praised his agent, Barry Bloom, who he said has been like a family member.

After overcoming Gabe Kidd at Wrestle Dynasty in an instant classic, Omega returned to AEW and quickly won the International Championship from Konosuke Takeshita. It’s believed the star is heading for a champion vs. champion clash with long-time rival Kazuchika Okada at All In Texas.
