A top AEW could be forced to go under the knife.

Thunder Rosa returned to the ring in December 2023 after missing 16 months of action with a back injury. When her hiatus began, Rosa was the AEW Women’s World Champion and was eventually forced to relinquish her title.

While appearing on the KiddChris Show, Rosa was asked whether she had fusion surgery while she was out of action. The former champion revealed that she didn’t, but she’s aware that she’ll probably need it in the future.

“I didn’t,” she said. “I think the possibility of surgery will be probably in the future. There were two things happening at the same time. I had tears on my lower back and I had herniations. Before you can do anything, you have to wait for the tears to not be tears. After, that’s when you can do the exercises.

It took me about seven to eight months to exercise properly. There are a lot of things I had to change with training and in my life. I was a runner, I can no longer run. You have to pick and choose what you can do. I want to still be at 100% in the ring, so I had to change everything.”

AEW Star Fires Shot At Thunder Rosa

At AEW Dynasty, Thunder Rosa will challenge Toni Storm for the Women’s Championship. In an interesting twist, Rosa had been due to defend the title against Storm just days after she began her absence back in August 2022.

In a recent interview, Storm took a shot at Rose and her injury issues, quipping that she got a back injury because she wasn’t strong enough to carry the Women’s Championship.
