AEW Star Admits Knees Are “Destroyed,” Confirms Double Replacement
An AEW veteran will be out for a long time.
On the special July 31 edition of AEW Collision, Dustin Rhodes lost the TNT Championship in a wild Street Fight against Kyle Fletcher. The end came after Fletcher stabbed Rhodes in the leg with a screwdriver before hitting his Protoplex brain buster onto a pile of thumbtacks.
After the match, Fletcher continued the assault, smashing Rhodes’ knee with a steel chair against the ring post.
In the days after the show, Dustin Rhodes announced that he required “very invasive major surgery” to try and repair the damage. He added that he was in terrible pain, and quickly denied claims that his injuries were part of a storyline.
AEW Star Dustin Rhodes Heading For Double Surgery
In a new series of posts on social media, Rhodes described his knees as “destroyed” before adding that things are so bad doctors can’t fix the damage and will be doing two knee replacements instead.
The former TNT Champion hit back at suggestions that he’s going to retire, while promising to work as hard as he can to make it back.
Knees are both destroyed. I have to go under the knife August 21st. They can’t actually fix the damage so we are getting 2 knee Replacements. Damn! #KeepSteppin
By the way…….This Is NOT THE END
Is hard as this is and how much I hurt right now, very nervous but excited to start from scratch and build back better. 6 million dollar man type shit. Been a hard recovery this week, and still suffering from that match but what doesn’t kill me makes me stronger.
I promise to push myself as hard as possible to make it back. I still got lots to do. But in the mean time, just want to say thank you to you all for checking on me and giving me words of encouragement.
Can’t believe me and my brother both had street fights within 4 days of each other.
Truly excited for whatever comes next in @AEW!!!
Love it here. And damn……5***** match at 56! Never let anybody tell u you cant do or accomplish something. Never quit. Grateful ❤️
You will never keep down a #rhodes
#KeepSteppin for LIFE!!🤘🏼
Rhodes remains one-half of the ROH World Tag Team Champions with Sammy Guevara, and one-third of the ROH World Six-Man Tag team Champions alongside Marshall and Ross Von Erich.
There’s no word on whether Rhodes will be forced to vacate those championships.
