Recent AEW Signing Drops Surprise Retirement Hint
An AEW star has opened up about the next chapter.
MVP made his AEW debut at Dynamite Grand Slam on September 25th where he offered to replace Prince Nana as Swerve Strickland’s manager. A week later, the veteran was reunited with Shelton Benjamin and the Hurt Syndicate was fully in effect.
Since then, the duo has been joined by Bobby Lashley with former members of WWE’s Hurt Business looking to give the group a fitting send-off.
Benjamin was released by WWE in September 2023, while MVP and Lashley allowed their contracts to expire the following summer. In a recent interview, MVP said he knew it was time to move on when Triple H took control of WWE, stating “The new management wasn’t for me.”
MVP Wants To Do Good Business In AEW
During the same interview with Drop The Heat, MVP looked ahead to the next chapter of his career, admitting his time in wrestling is coming to an end.
“The next chapter currently is AEW,” MVP said. “Got the boys back together, the Hurt Syndicate, so I want to end that chapter the way it should have been ended.
So we have plans to do some really good business at AEW, and then I got a few matches in me. I’d like to have one, well, a few matches, before I hang it up for good. I’m not officially retired yet, so I want to have my final retirement match.
After that, we’ll see. I’m enjoying this role as a manager, a mouthpiece. If somebody wants to keep paying me to come around, grab a mic and run my mouth, I’ll do it for as long as they pay me to do it. But otherwise, as far as wrestling, that chapter’s coming to a close pretty soon. Right now, I just want to have a good time making money with my friends.”
It’s been announced that MVP will return to the ring on November 24th at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XII against Barnett. The match will be the star’s first since July 2022. Meanwhile, the Hurt Syndicate’s Bobby Lashley will make his AEW in-ring debut at Full Gear when he takes on Swerve Strickland.
Lashley made his debut on the October 30th episode of Dynamite, attacking former World Champion Strickland.
