AEW Make Significant Continental Classic Change
The Continental Classic is underway for 2024 and it seems AEW has made one major change to how this year’s winner will be determined.
The Continental Classic was one of the highlights in AEW in 2023 as Eddie Kingston battled his way through a field of 12 to emerge as the first-ever Continental Crown winner.
2024’s lineup sees the Blue League comprised of Kazuchika Okada, Kyle Fletcher, the new TNT Champion Daniel Garcia, Mark Briscoe, The Beast Mortos, and Shelton Benjamin. The Gold League is made up of Will Ospreay, AEW Trios Champion Claudio Castagnoli, Brody King, Juice Robinson, Ricochet, and Darby Allin.
With the Classic kicking off on the 27th of November edition of Dynamite, AEW confirmed that the final will be held once again at Worlds End on December 28th.
But there is a bigger change this year as well.
How Has AEW Changed The Continental Classic?
In 2023, the first and second-placed stars in each of the Gold League and Blue League faced off in semi-finals with the winners of those matches clashing in the final.
2024’s Continental Classic will see the first-placed talent in the Gold League face the Blue League’s runner-up and the Blue League’s winner face the Gold League’s runner-up with the winners going on to face each other in the final. This means that both finalists could come from the same league.
Both of the semi-finals will also take place at Worlds End meaning that the winner of the Continental Classic will have to win two matches in one night.
