AEW Show To Be Cancelled In New TV Deal

A new US TV deal for AEW is on the way at any moment but it seems one of the company’s shows won’t be carrying on.

AEW is currently involved in talks with Warner Bros Discovery regarding a new media rights deal. The company’s current deal expires in 2024 and the situation has created wave after wave of speculation over the future of Tony Khan’s shows on TBS and TNT. However, a new deal is on its way.

John Ourand at Puck has reported that AEW’s new deal with Warner Brothers Discovery looks to be for four years with the first three guaranteed and the fourth an option year. The ballpark figure of $170 million per year has been given with AEW programming to air twice a week on TBS, TNT, and TruTV. An official announcement could come as soon as next week unless any last-minute changes emerge.

AEW Rampage To Meet Its End

Dave Meltzer has reported that as a result of the new deal, it looks like Rampage will be cancelled and a new third show will be shopped around different networks:

Ourand’s report was that AEW would air on TNT, TBS, and TruTV twice a week. Now if there are only two shows, Dynamite and Collision, and three stations listed, that would seem to indicate that Tru would get reruns or simulcasts. Tru is being rebranded as a sports station from 8-11 p.m. each night.

This would confirm what another source indicated to us this past week that Rampage would not be continued, and that the third show, likely called AEW Shockwave given AEW just filed for a trademark for that term, would be the show being shopped around to FOX and likely others.

AEW Rampage began on the 13th of August 2021 with a show that saw Christian Cage defeat Kenny Omega for the TNA World Title. The second edition of Rampage proved to be the most significant in the show’s history as it featured the AEW debut of CM Punk in Chicago.

Since then Rampage has mainly featured lower-tier talent in competition every week and is usually taped after the live Dynamite show on Wednesday nights.
