AEW Star Sees Light At The End Of The Tunnel After 2 Years Of Pain
A top star in AEW can finally smile a bit after a brutal two-year stretch in his career.
The finals of the AEW Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament took place at Double or Nothing in Phoenix, featuring “Hangman” Adam Page against Will Ospreay – two of the company’s biggest stars.
While many fans may have predicted a victory for Ospreay, it was the Hangman who emerged victorious after a brutal Buckshot Lariat. After the match was over, Page shook hands with Ospreay as a sign of respect.
By winning the Men’s Owen Hart Cup, Page will go on to challenge Jon Moxley for the AEW World Title at All In Texas on July 12th.
Hangman Page is a former AEW World Champion who lost the title three years ago this month. He hasn’t been in the title picture since then while also having a very personal rivalry with Swerve Strickland.
At AEW’s post-Double or Nothing press conference, Page spoke about how tough the last three years have been and what the big win meant to him.
“This means so much to me. These past two years have been so difficult.
Recently MJF said to me that he thought, deep down that I would never win the World Championship again. You know, he’s wrong all the time, he’s a dumbass, but he was right. I’ve been afraid I would never hold the World Championship again or even come close.
This is as close as I have been in three years now and this means the world to me.”
“Hangman” Adam Page Isn’t Sure What He’d Do If He Lost At AEW Double Or Nothing
As he continued to reflect on his journey, Hangman admitted that he wouldn’t know what would be next for him if he lost at Double or Nothing.
“For two years I haven’t won anything, anything of note really. Not a tournament, not a championship and the one thing I did win was unsanctioned and it didn’t feel like winning you know?
This was a light at the end of the tunnel for me. If I didn’t get this, if I didn’t win this, I mean I truly needed it because I didn’t know what I was going to do with myself. But I do know what’s in front of me and I know this isn’t the end of it this is just the beginning.
I think for so long I’ve been looking backwards but I think now I’ll have the chance to look forward to something.”
At the press conference, “Hangman” Page also said that if he wins the AEW World Title, he will take it out of the briefcase that Jon Moxley has hidden it in since he won the title last October.
