Wrestling Legend Calls Ricky Starks “The Future And Now” Of AEW
When it comes to the future of AEW, one wrestling legend in the company believes Ricky Starks is a guy to keep an eye on.
This coming Saturday, July 15th at AEW Collision in Calgary, Ricky Starks will face CM Punk in the Finals of the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. The winner gets a beautiful trophy that has been present at ringside during the matches of the tournament.
Ricky Starks made the finals by beating former ally Powerhouse Hobbs in the semifinals last week on Collision while Punk beat Samoa Joe for the first time in his career.
Since he signed with AEW over three years ago in June 2020, Ricky Starks has impressed a lot of people in terms of his matches and his entertaining promos. Currently, he is one of the most popular wrestlers on the roster. Over the last year, Starks has had rivalries with AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Chris Jericho and the aforementioned Hobbs among others.
Dustin Rhodes is a wrestling legend who is still active in his early 50s while also working in AEW as a coach. Recently, Dustin had a lot of good things to say about Starks on the Sports Guys Talking Wrestling podcast.
“He’s a very young Superstar, and he’s going to be the future, I think, and the now. He’s just stepping into his own shoes. He’s killing it. I’m excited to see that one.”
Rhodes also praised CM Punk for his match against Samoa Joe as well.
“I mean, I was excited to see CM Punk and Samoa Joe because of their rivalry and CM Punk to actually finally one-up Samoa Joe, which was impressive. It was a hell of a match, I thought. I texted them all and said what an awesome match it was. It should be an incredible match.”
Earlier this week, Ricky Starks explained why he believes he is an equal to guys like CM Punk in AEW based on his past performances.
