AEW Referee Mishaps Will Not Continue
The issues with AEW refereeing are expected to be corrected in the future.
AEW Owner & President Tony Khan has built an incredible roster of talent who put on some of the best matches anywhere in the world. However, there is also a third person in the ring during a singles match in pro wrestling and that’s a referee.
The referee crew consists of many people who have been with the company since they launched in January 2019 so there’s a lot of familiarity with fans since it’s been over five years of seeing the same officials on the AEW TV shows. Referees like Paul Turner, Bryce Remsburg, Aubrey Edwards, and Rick Knox are among the referee crew who have been a part of AEW for the past five-plus years.
It has been reported by Fightful Select that earlier this year, several of the AEW referees were given new one-year contracts to remain with the company. Some of them are likely at the midway point of those deals. No specific referee names were mentioned.
As for the future of the referees, Fightful noted that some of the referees will be put on more long-term agreements.
AEW Plans To Eliminate Some Referee Issues
There was recent criticism of a referee when Anna Jay beat Harley Cameron on the AEW WrestleDream pre-show and the referee assisted Jay. That’s because when Jay was pinning Cameron, the referee Mike Posey pushed Cameron’s left shoulder down so that the referee could make the three count to end the match.

According to Fightful Select, AEW is aware of the online criticism regarding that spot between Jay and Cameron. Fightful said they weren’t given a direct reason for why it happened, but Fightful was told that the referees wouldn’t continue doing that.
