AEW Postpones Samoa Joe Match On Dynamite
The AEW in-ring return of Samoa Joe will have to wait since a match has been canceled.
Former AEW World Champion Samoa Joe made an unannounced return on the January 15th edition of Dynamite.
There was a match between Hook and Christian Cage on Dynamite that ended when Kip Sabian and Nick Wayne attacked Hook to prevent Christian Cage from tapping out to the Red Rum submission.
After the match, Sabian and Nick brought in chairs to attack Hook some more, but Taz (Hook’s father) stood up because he couldn’t take it. Samoa Joe made his return and Christian left the ring. Joe hit Sabian with a powerslam. Joe stood tall with Hook and Katsuyori Shibata, who was there to support Hook. Taz said he loves it when a plan comes together.
It was Samoa Joe’s first appearance on AEW television since July 2024 when he lost a Stampede Street Fight to Chris Jericho. Samoa Joe was taken out in a backstage segment that saw him driven through a wall to write him off TV.
The reason Joe was off AEW TV for so long was because he was filming the latest season of Peacock’s Twisted Metal, where he plays the role of Sweet Tooth. It’s possible he had other unknown reasons for the lengthy absence as well.
Samoa Joe’s AEW Dynamite Return Match Will Be Rescheduled
There is a massive cold spell all across North America this week. There are places in the US that aren’t used to having snow like Texas, Louisiana, Georgia and the northern parts of Florida that have shut down cities for safety reasons because there aren’t materials there to clean the streets and make it safe for citizens.
Before the January 22nd edition of Dynamite in Knoxville, TN, AEW’s Owner Tony Khan admitted that there could be changes to Dynamite due to the weather.
In a post on X/Twitter before AEW Dynamite, Tony Khan announced that Samoa Joe’s return match against Nick Wayne will not happen this week, but it will be rescheduled in the future.
Due to flight cancelations from winter weather, we must postpone tonight’s @SamoaJoe vs @thenickwayne match to a future date. The match will be rescheduled, + we’re going to all come together to have a great show tonight, it starts very soon 8pm ET/7pm CT On TBS + Max TONIGHT!
