AEW Plans Forced To Change Due To Shock Suspension

Tony Khan AEW

Plans have been forced to change in AEW again on the back of Sammy Guevara’s second suspension from the company.

Sammy Guevara has been suspended by AEW for the second time in his career following a scary situation in a match with Jeff Hardy on the 14th of February.

Guevara had previously teamed with Chris Jericho after the two reunited when Guevara turned his back on The Don Callis Family.

With the AEW Tag Team Championship now vacant it seemed Jericho and Guevara could have been in the running to be in the tournament to crown new champions but that now won’t be the case.

Sammy Guevara Pulled From AEW Tag Team

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the situation and noted that Guevara’s suspension has caused plans to change again with Chris Jericho now set to team up with HOOK:

I think they [Jericho and Hook] are [teaming up]. Originally it was gonna be the Jericho and Kenny Omega tag team. And obviously, that fell through. And then it was gonna be Jericho and Guevara tag team for the tournament and Guevara is suspended. So it was on the February 14 show when he wrestled Jeff Hardy. So this is what I understand this what I don’t understand.

So when he did the shooting star press, and he nailed Jeff Hardy with his knee right in Jeff Hardy’s face and broke his nose. They came out and they told him because of concussion protocol to finish the match, and he didn’t finish the match [immediately]. He also did the GTH, which is a move where you knee the guy in the head, which is exactly what [you don’t do]. Jeff did not have a concussion or a broken nose. But they didn’t know that at the time. At the time. It was, you know, suspected. So they were mad at Guevara for not going right to the finish. I get why he was suspended.

Sammy Guevara was previously suspended following a backstage altercation with Andrade El Idolo in 2022. During his time in AEW, Guevara has won the TNT Championship on three occasions. It is not known when his suspension will expire.
