AEW Original Abandoned Locker Room For 2 Years

One AEW original has revealed that they abandoned the locker room to change with the coaches and says the company just isn’t for them.

When AEW formed in early 2019, The Elite were the centrepieces, with Chris Jericho and Jim Ross giving the company credibility with long-time wrestling fans. But for long-time viewers of Being The Elite, three letters became as synonymous with the company as AEW—SCU.

Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, and Scorpio Sky were at the height of their popularity as they travelled the roads to the worst towns they’d ever been in. When it came time for AEW to crown its first tag team champions, Kazarian and Sky claimed the gold booking their place in AEW history forever.

But that proved to be as good as it got for the group and now none of SCU are present on the AEW roster after Christopher Daniels announced his recent retirement from the ring. Sky has not been seen since September 2023 and Kazarian left the company altogether at the end of 2022. But it seems he was not happy in the company for some time before then.

Frankie Kazarian Wanted Out Of AEW Locker Room

Speaking during a virtual signing for K & S WrestleFest, Frankie Kazarian opened up about when he knew his time in AEW was over and noted his wife wanted him out of the company after just half an hour backstage:

Funny thing about my wife (Traci Brooks) — she obviously knows the business very well — she went to one (AEW) show. Physically went there with me. She was in there for maybe a half an hour and she pulled me aside and said, ‘You have got to get out of here…’

And this was a year and a half before I left. If you know my wife, she’s the friendliest human being on planet earth, everybody loves her and she saw, like a half an hour, she’s like, ‘You have got to get out of here’ and I was like, ‘See.’ She knew my frustrations at the time and she just got that vibe too so, and I’m not burying the company to all the AEW fans. It’s a fine place if that’s what you enjoy but, just wasn’t for me.

Kazarian then revealed that for his last two years in the company he changed with the coaches rather than in the wrestler’s locker room and says he enjoys being back in the locker room in TNA:

The AEW locker room when I was there, for the last two years I was there, I changed with the coaches because I just didn’t wanna be in the locker room for a variety of reasons and I had friends that — you know, Arn Anderson and Jerry Lynn and Billy Gunn and those guys, these are my buddies.

Guys I kind of had more in common with so, yeah, TNA, I actually enjoy being in the locker room because my friends are there and everyone is focused on the same goal. It’s legit the funnest locker room I’ve ever been in.
