AEW Now Home For Ex-WWE Star

Tony Khan AEW

Another former WWE star who also spent many years in TNA is now working for Tony Khan in AEW.

TNA Wrestling appeared in a state of flux at the beginning of 2024 when Scott D’Amore was fired as company president, shortly after the successful rebrand from Impact Wrestling.

Not long after D’Amore’s exit, TNA continued to make changes with other names working backstage let go, including two former WWE stars.

Josh Mathews and Christy Hemme were let go by TNA. Mathews joined TNA as a commentator in 2014 shortly after his release from WWE. Mathews was a part of the original series of Tough Enough and had been with WWE since then, principally as a commentator and backstage interviewer.

Most recently, Josh Mathews worked for TNA as Senior Producer and Senior Director of Digital Media. But he is not alone in departing.

Former WWE star Christy Hemme has also been let go from her role overseeing TNA’s social media. Hemme returned to TNA in 2022 after her previous ten-year spell as a ring announcer and backstage interviewer ended in 2016. Hemme had previously worked with WWE after winning the first Diva Search in the company in 2004.

Josh Mathews Now Part Of AEW

Speaking with Maven Huffman backstage at a recent AEW show, Josh Mathews confirmed that he’s working with Tony Khan in both AEW and Ring of Honor:

Right now, [I’m] shadowing Mike Mansury. So, I’ll do the Ring of Honor matches before. Then I’ll sit and watch Collision. Then I’ll do the Ring of Honor matches after.

Mathews’ confirmation comes after a report noted that he was working as part of AEW’s production team following his exit from TNA.
