Next AEW/NJPW Forbidden Door Show Could Involve One More Promotion

A new working relationship involving AEW could see the expansion of Forbidden Door.

Although AEW has enjoyed working relationships with several promotions since its creation, that went to a whole new level on June 26th, 2022, with the launch of Forbidden Door. The show spawned a follow-up in 2023 and looks set to be a permanent fixture on the pay-per-view calendar for years to come.

At the event, AEW and NJPW stars compete in a series of inter-promotional contests, often creating dream matches along the way. In 2023, Will Ospreay defeated Kenny Omega in a match of the year candidate, while Bryan Danielson got the better of Kazuchika Okada.

However, in 2024, Forbidden Door could also involve the Mexican promotion CMLL. In recent weeks CMLL talent such as Mistico, Volador Jr, Mascara Dorada, and Hechicero have all appeared on AEW television while Jon Moxley has hinted that the Blackpool Combat Club could head to Mexico in the near future.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that potential CMLL involvement at Forbidden Door is “absolutely being talked about.”

AEW Boss Tony Khan Celebrates STARDOM News

Since the launch of Forbidden Door, there has been talk of the event utilising talent from STARDOM, however, an agreement has never been made.

This lack of a deal came into sharp focus on February 4th with Tony Khan expressing his delight that STARDOM founder Rossy Ogawa had been fired. Khan posted a series of GIFs poking fun at Ogawa, while Bryan Alvarez has reported that the story is “way bigger” than many realise.
