AEW Forbidden Door World Title

The AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door PPV saw Swerve Strickland defend the AEW World Title against Will Ospreay, The Elite in tag team action and more.

AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door took place at the UBS Arena in Long Island, New York.

Here are the pre-show results with five matches to make it a total of 15 matches for the entire show.

* Kyle Fletcher defeated Serpentico by pinfall.

* House of Black (Malakai Black and Brody King) defeated Tomohiro Ishii and Kyle O’Reilly, Roderick Strong and Gabriel Kidd (with Gedo, Matt Taven, and Mike Bennett), and Private Party (Zay and Quen) by pinfall.

* Willow Nightingale and Tam Nakano defeated Kris Statlander and Momo Watanabe (with Stokely Hathaway) by pinfall.

* Women’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament Quarterfinals: Mariah May (with “Timeless” Toni Storm and Luther) defeated Saraya (with Harley Cameron) by pinfall.

* The Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fénix) and Místico (with Alex Abrahantes) defeated Los Ingobernables de Japon (Yota Tsuji, Titan, and Hiromu Takahashi) by submission.

The commentary team was Excalibur, Tony Schiavone & Taz.

Match #1: Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) defeated Hechicero by pinfall.

Match #2: The Elite (Matthew Jackson, Nicholas Jackson, and Kazuchika Okada) defeated The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens and Max Caster) and Hiroshi Tanahashi by pinfall.

Match #3: Men’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament Quarterfinals: Bryan Danielson defeated Shingo Takagi by submission.

Match #4: AEW Women’s Championship: “Timeless” Toni Storm (with Luther) defeated Mina Shirakawa by pinfall.

Match #5: Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Orange Cassidy by submission.

Match #6: Samoa Joe, Hook & Katsuyori Shibata defeated “The Learning Tree” Chris Jericho, Jeff Cobb & Big Bill (w/Bryan Keith) by pinfall.

Match #7: TNT Championship Ladder Match: Jack Perry won the match that also included Mark Briscoe, Dante Martin, El Phantasmo, Lio Rush and Konosuke Takeshita.

Match #8:Mercedes Mone defeated Stephanie Vaquer to retain the TBS Championship and Win the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship. Mone won by submission with a Crossface.

After the match, Britt Baker’s familiar music played. Welcome back Dr. Britt Baker, who got a huge ovation from the crowd. The fans chanted “DMD” for Baker. There was an impressive pyro display for Baker, who had a long-distance staredown with Mone. Baker walked to the back.

Match #9: Tetsuya Naito defeated Jon Moxley by pinfall to become the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. Swerve won with the Destino.

Who Won The AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door Main Event?

The main event started at 11:30 p.m. ET so it was 3.5 hours after the main card began.

Match #10: Swerve Strickland defeated Will Ospreay by pinfall to retain the AEW World Championship. Swerve hit Will with the House Call kick twice and the Big Pressure (JML Driver) slam for the pinfall win.

After the match, Will was getting checked on by AEW doctors in the ring. Swerve spoke to Will as a sign of respect. Kyle Fletcher also spoke to his friend Ospreay in the ring. Swerve celebrated with the AEW Title to end the show.

Forbidden Door went right around four hours for the main show.

The next AEW PPV is the All In London on Sunday, August 25th.
