AEW Remains In “Very, Very Close And Exciting Negotiations” With WBD
AEW President Tony Khan believes a huge new TV deal with Warner Bros Discovery is nearing completion.
With AEW’s current television rights deal set to expire before the end of 2024, speculation has been rife about the future home of the company but recent comments from Tony Khan suggest that his company are closing in on a big money new deal with the media giants.
According to a report from Fightful Select, Warner Brothers Discovery recently made a high value new offer for the promotion’s long-term media rights. The offer reportedly came after Khan and WBD boss David Zaslav met in Paris whilst attending the 2024 Olympic Games.
Speaking during the AEW All Out Post Show Media Scrum, Khan hinted that the two sides were on the verge of a deal and couldn’t hide his excitement at the new package:
“We’re still in very very close and exciting negotiations with Warner Brothers Discovery. It’s been going on throughout the summer that we’ve been having these conversations. It’s a very detailed package that we’re having discussions about.”
Khan revealed, however, that no deal had yet been signed, sealed and delivered but that it was being worked on and he was full of anticipation:
“I believe AEW is here to stay on TNT and TBS.’ I think that’s true for a very long time and I believe it. I have not put pen to paper. I’m still working on things.
It’s an exciting time, without getting too specific, but while giving everybody that anticipation of things to come. There are really exciting things to come for AEW.”
AEW Star Set To Dismiss WWE Interest To Remain With Company
A financially beneficial new TV rights deal will no doubt help AEW to retain it’s top stars, with one big name already set to snub interest from WWE to remain with the company.
The recently returned Daniel Garcia is rumoured to be out of contract in October, but recent advertising for events beyond that date suggest that the Buffalo native is set to remain with Tony Khan’s organisation.
