Surprising AEW Name Credited With Toni Storm/Mariah May Feud

Mariah May Toni Storm AEW

Mariah May and Toni Storm will go to war in Wembley Stadium at All In but there’s a surprising name to thank for one of AEW’s most loved feuds.

When Mariah May entered AEW she was instantly by the side of Toni Storm as she sought to emulate her hero. May snuggled in the AEW Women’s World Champion’s bosom on command as Storm reigned over the company’s women’s division in her own unique way.

Mariah May was part of the women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament with the winner of that competition getting a shot at Toni Storm’s title at All In. May made it to the final and faced off with Willow Nightingale on the 10th of July edition of Dynamite for The Owen.

In the end, Mariah May walked away with the win booking her place at Wembley Stadium in her native London, England and despite now having to face her, Toni Storm was the first to lead the celebrations for May.

As the two skipped up the ramp, May headed straight for her trophy and championship belt for winning the tournament and the fun officially ended as May drove the belt into Storm’s head.

May then whipped the AEW Women’s World Champion and nailed her butler Luther as well before throwing him off the stage through a table. Mariah May then watched for the shoe as she took Storm’s footwear and nailed her repeatedly in the head causing the blood to flow.

Since then Toni Storm has sought revenge and warned May that she made a mistake by not “cutting her bloody head off.”

AEW Name To Thank For Mariah May/Toni Storm Feud

Speaking on his What Happened When podcast, AEW announcer Tony Schiavone has now given some insight into how the whole storyline came about and gave a lot of the credit to Hey! (EW) host and Wrestle Aunt, RJ City:

I was told one time by a boss in my wrestling journey, looking around, he said no idea is a bad idea, let’s throw it out there, you gotta come up with something right. You know what, that’s how they came up with the Toni Storm angle with Mariah May.

Let’s think of something and everybody put their heads together and obviously RJ City had a lot to do with that, he’s a very talented kid, I have a lot of time for him. And to me, the Toni Storm/Mariah May angle is one of the best angles we’ve ever done in AEW.

Another heated feud in AEW is reported to have been in the works for months before it ever made TV with another huge bout set for All In on August 25th.
