AEW Made Several Late Changes To AEW Dynasty
The backstage area at AEW Dynasty was buzzing.
At AEW Dynasty, the Young Bucks made their long-awaited return, although no one would have predicted who they came back to help. In the final stages of the main event and World Title match between Jon Moxley and Swerve Strickland, the Bucks appeared from the darkness and hit Strickland with a BTE Trigger helping Moxley to victory.
Elsewhere on the card, Bandido became the new Ring of Honor World Champion, and Adam Cole pinned Daniel Garcia to win the TNT Championship. There were also hard-fought title defences for Kenny Omega, the Death Riders, and “Timeless” Toni Storm.
Meanwhile, Mercedes Mone, Kyle Fletcher, and Will Ospreay all advanced in the Owen Hart Cup.
AEW Dynasty Card Underwent Several Changes
As reported by Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there were “constant changes” to the match order being made right until the show went on the air. Meltzer noted that the position of the World Trios Title match was changed more than once, while the decision for Will Ospreay vs. Kevin Knight to open the main show was taken very late in the day.
The same report noted that Josh Matthews, who has previously worked with WWE and TNA was backstage “working” on the show. Matthews is married to Madison Rayne who works backstage.
With regard to the return of the Young Bucks, Meltzer revealed that they only arrived at the arena at 10 pm. They weren’t hidden backstage, but the company was confident that they arrived so late, news of their comeback wouldn’t get out.
