AEW Legend Believes Mick Foley Departing WWE Is Significant
An AEW legend has shared their true thoughts about Mick Foley’s departure from WWE.
Recently, Foley posted an update on Instagram, stating that he had parted ways with the Stamford promotion, with whom he has a Legends contract, set to expire in June 2026.
The 60-year-old explained that he had been worried about the company’s close relationship with the United States President Donald Trump.
Foley has been critical of Trump in the past and claimed that his latest comment about the recently-deceased filmmaker Rob Reiner was the final straw for him.
Several celebrities criticized Trump for his insensitive statement, including musician Jack White. Foley had earlier reposted White’s comment on his social media, while taking a dig at WWE and its employees for not speaking on the issue.
In his Instagram post, the Hall of Famer also stated that he would not make appearances in the company till Trump was in power, and he would not renew his Legends contract either.
AEW’s Jim Ross Tells WWE To Take Mick Foley’s Departure Seriously
While WWE did not acknowledge Mick Foley’s departure, AEW commentator Jim Ross claimed that the incident was significant.
While speaking on his podcast, Grilling JR, Ross praised Foley, calling him a man of principles. He also warned the Stamford-based company against overlooking it, as Foley carries weight backstage.
I think the world of Mick Foley. If I had my own territory, he’d be another guy I’d bring in — he’d be joining Gunther on the roster, so to speak. He’s just a wonderful human being. He has high principles. He’s very sensitive, very intelligent — and if he says he’s done, he’s done.
So I don’t think anyone in WWE will lose any significant sleep over it — but they should. He’s a valuable asset. In any event, you never really know how things are going to end up at the end of the day. What I do know is that when Mick says something, he means it. [H/T: Ringside News]
