A former AEW World Champion doesn’t plan on having a retirement tour.

John Cena has spent all of 2025 promoting the fact that he is visiting cities for the final time as part of his WWE retirement tour.

Due to Cena’s retirement tour, many wrestlers who are close to his age and nearing the end of their careers are being asked about a possible retirement tour of their own.

Samoa Joe is a former AEW and ROH World Champion who started in pro wrestling at the same time as Cena in 2000 when they trained together in California.

Like Cena and AJ Styles, along with other wrestlers in their 40s, Samoa Joe is closer to the end of his career than he is to the beginning.

While speaking to Shak Wrestling, Joe suggested that his current AEW run could be his last run in pro wrestling.

“I’d say most likely. And honestly, I think it’s for a lot of reasons, and I think most of them are responsible. You never want to overstay your welcome in this industry. I’ve been fortunate that I’ve been able to be involved with it for over 25 years now.

And the other thing too is, I think many of us want to preserve what we can of our health for our latter years. So, it is something that is probably the most likely scenario. But hey, it is an unusual world, and unusual opportunities come up, so we’ll see.”

AEW’s Samoa Joe Teases That His Wrestling Retirement Might Be A Surprise

At AEW WrestleDream on October 18th, Samoa Joe will try to be a two-time AEW World Champion when he challenges “Hangman” Adam Page for the gold.

Regarding a possible retirement tour, Joe doesn’t seem interested in that.

“No, not at all. It might be a surprise. It might just be one day I’m gone and leave it at that. I’m not as ceremonial as everybody else. I like disappearing into the sunset.

I’ve always been somebody that’s been firmly planted with my head toward the future and never tried to dwell too much in the past. And it’s kind of been my theory with the industry too. I would hope we always look towards the future and not, obviously, appreciate the past, but not miss it too much.”
