AEW Legend Reacts To Bryan Danielson Joining Commentary Team

Bryan Danielson

Bryan Danielson has settled in as an announcer in AEW after having an incredible career as a wrestler.

The last time Bryan Danielson had a match was at the AEW Wrestledream PPV when he lost the AEW World Title to his former friend, Jon Moxley. That was in October 2024, so it’s been nearly one year since Danielson had a match.

While the former AEW, WWE, and ROH World Champion Danielson hoped to continue wrestling part-time after his full-time run ended, serious neck issues have prevented him from wrestling again.

Bryan Danielson officially joined the AEW Dynamite commentary team with Excalibur and Taz on the September 10th edition of Dynamite. Danielson works behind the scenes in AEW as an advisor/consultant, but giving him a commentary role lends some credibility to the desk since Bryan is considered one of the best wrestlers of the last 25 years.

In an interview with the Going Ringside podcast, wrestling legend Taz spoke about Danielson’s move from the ring to the commentary desk.

“I think it’s cool. I mean, I like Bryan. I respect Bryan and get along great with him. He’s got great insight. You know, some people say, ‘Well, wait a minute. Well, Taz is an analyst, so now we have another analyst in Bryan Danielson.’ That’s true, and it’s okay to have two analysts. I mean, it happens in mainstream sports all the time.

I’m a big Mets fan, New York Mets fan. So you know, the announcement for the Mets is a three-man booth forever, a guy named Gary Cohen is a play-by-play guy, and Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez, two former great players, are both analysts.

It’s okay to have two analysts, because we have different perspectives on what you’re seeing, the physicality go down in the ring.”

Taz Expects To Build Chemistry With Bryan Danielson On AEW Commentary

After retiring as a wrestler in the early 2000s due to injuries, Taz became one of the voices of SmackDown, alongside Michael Cole, for most of the 2000s decade. Taz moved on to TNA for a long run, and he has been with AEW as a manager/announcer for the past six years.

In addition to joining the Dynamite commentary team, Danielson was also on commentary for the AEW All Out PPV on September 20th in Toronto. Taz spoke about how the team is going to build chemistry together.

“So I’m happy that Danielson is part of the announced team with us, with Excalibur and myself, and I think it’s cool. So we just have to build some chemistry together. In broadcasting, you understand that it takes some time to get a load, as a unit, especially in a three-person booth, which can get a little tougher.

So we just need a little time to kind of get our sea legs as a unit under us a little bit. We will, it’ll take a couple of weeks.”
