AEW’s Kenny Omega Criticises Rossy Ogawa For Fat-Shaming Top Star
Kenny Omega wasn’t impressed by recent comments from Rossy Ogawa.
In a new interview with Sports Graphic Number, former Stardom and current Marigold boss Rossy Ogawa made a series of controversial comments about one of his biggest stars.
While discussing Utami Hayashishita, Ogawa said it would be “difficult for her to bloom for a second time,” after leaving Stardom, before adding, “I want to see her show a toned body.”
Unsurprisingly, the comments drew significant criticism from fans on social media, and they haven’t escaped the notice of Kenny Omega. The AEW star has a close connection to Japan and Japanese wrestling, having been a key player for NJPW for several years.
On his Twitch stream, Omega described the comments from Ogawa as “odd” before addressing the backlash he received for criticising the promoter previously.
Yeah, that’s very odd. The funny this is, is I remember comments I made [on Twitch], and maybe I said too much. People attacked me, instantly, ‘How dare I say anything bad about Rossy. I’m lying. I’m a liar. What would I know? If I know something, maybe I should just say what it is because if I don’t say it, I’m just as guilty.’
It doesn’t work that way. If you think it works that way, you don’t know how life works. Someone like Rossy does a good job of revealing himself to the world on his own. Sooner enough, whether he goes full mask off on his own and will start talking, the writing will be on the wall.
I don’t want to be caught up in this. I’m doing my own thing. As soon as I said anything, I didn’t even allude to anything, necessarily, but what happened was his buddy in the industry, Fumi Saito, came to his rescue and had some disparaging remarks towards me. It became this entire thing that I didn’t want it to become,”
Not The First Time Kenny Omega Has Called Out Rossy Ogawa
In April 2024, Rossy Ogawa launched the Marigold promotion after being fired from his role as Stardom boss. The new promotion quickly partnered with WWE, and several WWE Superstars have since appeared in Japan.
Following the announcement, Kenny Omega hinted that there’s more to Ogawa than meets the eye, suggesting there are lots of controversial stories waiting to come out. Omega also pointed to Omega’s history of recruiting young girls for “very revealing swimsuit calendars and books.”
