AEW & Jon Moxley Sued For Negligence And Battery

Jon Moxley AEW

AEW and Jon Moxley are facing legal trouble after both have been sued by a production member who has made allegations of assault and battery.

Sports Illustrated has reported that Christopher Dispensa, a long-time production crew member who started contract work with AEW back in 2019, has filed a suit in the Wayne County Circuit Court on May 30th.

The lawsuit accuses AEW of various degrees of negligence by AEW and Jon Moxley, with allegations of civil assault and battery made against the AEW World Champion.

Dispensa’s legal team told Sports Illustrated that he has not worked with AEW since December 5th 2024, and the company that employs him, Broadcast Service Group, had demoted him to a carpenter’s role without explanation.

The suit centres around allegations during Moxley’s steel cage match with Kenny Omega on the May 10th 2023 edition of Dynamite. When Jon Moxley went to retrieve a screwdriver to attack his opponent, he is said to have pushed Dispensa to the ground. The push was unplanned, and as a result, Dispensa took an unexpected fall, according to the allegations.

The injuries Dispensa is said to have suffered as a result of Moxley’s actions – that Dispensa’s legal team are calling civil assault and battery – are said to have been to his neck and shoulder. Dispensa alleges that the injuries suffered led to him undergoing cervical fusion surgery, shoulder surgery, and treatment for other unspecified injuries.

Jon Moxley’s Disciplinary Issues In AEW Under The Microscope

The lawsuit has made reference to previous disciplinary issues regarding Jon Moxley in AEW, as it reads that he “had a history of disciplinary issues before this incident involving other people while under [AEW’s] employ, agency and/or contractual relationship.”

It also says that “past disciplinary offenses by [Moxley] include a documented history of unpredictability as well as a lack of control by Defendant AEW, all of which were known or should have been known to Defendant AEW at the time of this assault.”

High-level AEW sources cited in the report, however, are unaware of any such disciplinary issues that Jon Moxley has been a part of during his time in the company.

Moxley and AEW are accused of displaying gross negligence “By going off-script and violently shoving Plaintiff, who was only a crew member, to the ground, [Moxley] demonstrated a substantial lack of concern for whether a severe injury would result to a production crew member at the event.” It adds, “In taking no precautions or preventative measures to protect production staff, Defendant AEW’s actions likewise show a reckless disregard for the safety of production staff which goes beyond simple inadvertence.”

Dispensa is seeking compensation for “injuries suffered due to actions of the wrestler and the company he worked for.” The filing notes that the “amount in controversy exceeds $25,000.”

AEW recently had another lawsuit forced into arbitration by a judge.

Jon Moxley will defend his AEW World Championship against Hangman Adam Page at All In Texas on July 12th.
