AEW To Hold Interim World Championship Eliminator Series
AEW hold an Eliminator Series to determine the interim World Champion following the news that CM Punk is set to undergo surgery.
On the June 3rd episode of Rampage, it was announced that new AEW World Champion CM Punk would be appearing to address his future and recent speculation.
During the show, CM Punk walked to the ring with tears in his eyes and revealed that he requires surgery just five days after winning the AEW World Championship at Double Or Nothing. Punk did not specify the exact injury he’s suffered nor detail how long he will be out of action.
Later in the show, it was announced that a process to crown an Interim World Champion would begin on the June 8th episode of Dynamite. The show is set to open with a Battle Royal, the winner of which will face the number one ranked Jon Moxley in the main event. Then, the victor of that bout will secure their place in the main event of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door where the champion will be decided.
In a new update, it has been confirmed that at NJPW’s upcoming Dominion event on June 12th, Hiroshi Tanahashi will clash with Hirooki Goto to decide who will face the winner from Dynamite at Forbidden Door. Before being injured, CM Punk was scheduled to square off against Tanahashi at the supershow.
