AEW In Danger On TBS
Change is in the air in the wrestling world and it could spell bad news for Tony Khan and AEW according to a new report.
Things have been all change in WWE since the takeover of the company by Endeavor was completed in September 2023. SmackDown will have a new home on the USA Network in 2024 while NXT leaves USA for a new station then as well.
The future of Monday Night Raw remains up in the air with Paul Levesque and Nick Khan believed to have recently attended meetings in Los Angeles to try and secure a new deal for the show. However, there have been suggestions that CM Punk joining WWE might have changed everything once again.
AEW’s Future On TBS Could Hang In The Balance
There have been conflicting reports over Nick Khan, Paul Levesque, and TKO COO attending a meeting in New York regarding Warner Brothers Discovery acquiring the rights to Raw. Nick Hausman of Haus of Wrestling has noted he has been told no meeting took place and that the schedules of the men involved would have prohibited that. There was also doubt cast on the suggestion that CM Punk alone could cause WBD to abandon AEW and get behind WWE.
Hausman notes that the “vibe” they have been given – although it is not said where this comes from – is that AEW could be in danger of being moved from TBS/TNT should WBD acquire Raw with WWE’s programming going on one of those networks. Tony Khan’s company would then be aired on Discovery.
One higher-up in AEW is quoted as saying that the “Only person who really knows is [WBD CEO David] Zaslav.”
It should also be noted that there has been a prevailing rumour in the wrestling world from the inception of AEW that WBD has some kind of ownership stake in that company. This has never been confirmed to be true but a deal with WWE at AEW’s expense might answer that question once and for all.
