AEW’s Harley Cameron Takes Inspiration From Unlikely Source
Harley Cameron has reflected on her AEW rise.
At AEW Grand Slam Australia, Harley Cameron wrestled in the biggest match of her short career. Not only was the event just an hour away from where she grew up on the Gold Coast, but the match saw her face Mercedes Mone for the TBS Championship.
Although she ultimately lost the match, it provided another step up the ladder for Cameron who has taken AEW by storm in recent months. The star’s mix of comedic timing, natural wit, and ever-improving wrestling skills have seen AEW fans take her to their hearts.
Cameron, who isn’t shy about breaking into song to unsettle a rival, recently sat down with Sports Illustrated’s The Takedown to discuss her surge in popularity and what comes next.
During the conversation, Cameron revealed she’s taken inspiration from Jack Black and his ability to combine music and comedy.
“I always was just so entertained by him. I always thought it was really cool how he has always mixed music with comedy. And I think that’s like a really rare thing that people do.
Again, I’m just very into the concept of mixing arts together, and it’s only recent that someone actually referenced that to me and I thought ‘Oh yeah.’
Like I really did grow up loving a lot of the stuff Jack Black did, and I thought it was very clever how he did his humor with his music, and now I find myself doing it and I’m like ‘Oh, I think I was little inspired by him.”
Harley Cameron Tipped To Become World Champion
Following their match at Grand Slam Australia, Mercedes Mone said Harley Cameron is now on her way to becoming World Champion. Mone heaped praise on her most recent challenger, calling her “phenomenal,” adding that she’s an entertainer in every sense of the word.
However, she also warned that while Cameron is on the way up, she’s still the greatest of all time.
