AEW Figure Wishes CM Punk Was Still With The Company

CM Punk

An AEW veteran has offered their support to CM Punk.

At a kick-off event ahead of Night of Champions, CM Punk publicly apologised for comments in 2020 that were highly critical of WWE’s relationship with Saudi Arabia.

The star later deleted the message aimed at The Miz where he told the former World Champion to “suck a blood money-covered d**k in Saudi Arabia.” Fast forward to 2025, and Punk apologised to the people of Saudi Arabia and said his comments had nothing to do with the kingdom.

While Triple H praised Punk for apologising, many online felt he had turned his back on his beliefs to side with his corporate paymaster and flooded as many platforms as they could find to let him know.

Jim Ross Supports CM Punk

On the latest episode of his Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross said that much of the criticism of Punk over his apology has been overblown. He went on to say that no matter what the reaction online, he knows Punk’s heart is in the right place.

“It’s overthought… Overthought, and I know that Punk’s heart is in the right place,”

Ross added that despite the controversy around him, Punk remains a good friend, and he wishes he were still with AEW.

“He’s controversial, that’s why he’s so fun to follow. Phil’s a good friend of mine. I am a full-on supporter of his work, I really am; I still wish he was at AEW, quite frankly.”

Meanwhile, just weeks after undergoing surgery for colon cancer, Jim Ross has confirmed he’ll be back in the commentary booth at AEW All In. JR said that while he doesn’t know which match he’s working as yet, he’d love to be on the call for Kenny Omega vs. Kazuchika Okada.
