AEW Making Ex-Champion’s Expiring Contract A Priority

Tony Khan AEW

A former champion in AEW is only months away from their contract expiring, with big question marks now hanging over their future.

AEW is fighting a battle to keep Mariah May with the former AEW Women’s Champion just a few short months away from being a free agent. But things could get even worse for Tony Khan in 2025.

Fightful Select has reported that former TBS Champion Willow Nightingale is also in her contract year with AEW. Nightingale’s current deal is said to only have a few months left to run. Sources in the company have claimed Willow Nightingale is a priority and someone they want to keep in AEW. The current expectation is that Nightingale will stick with AEW, and many noted that it’s a “guarantee” that she will be offered a new deal.

Willow Nightingale Stands Against AEW’s Death Riders

Since mid-2023, Willow Nightingale has been TBS Champion, NJPW Women’s Strong Champion, and CMLL World Women’s Champion. However, she hasn’t held a championship of any kind since September 2024, and she recently missed out on taking part in the Owen Hart Cup.

In recent weeks, Nightingale has helped The Opps in their battle against the Death Riders. On the April 16 edition of Dynamite, she ensured that Powerhouse Hobbs, Samoa Joe, and Katsuyori Shibata defeated the dominant faction to win the AEW Trios Titles.
