“Competition breeds excellence” according to one AEW star.

From 2019 until 2021, AEW and NXT went head-to-head on Wednesday nights with the competition taking on a life of its own among fans. Although the rivalry between WWE and AEW shows no sign of going away, the dynamic changed when NXT moved to Tuesdays.

Occasionally, Dynamite and NXT still meet due to quirks in TV scheduling, but these ratings battles are few and far between. Interestingly, it seems those involved enjoyed the pressure.

During a new interview with Justin Barrasso of Undisputed, Nicholas Jackson admitted he misses the battles between AEW and NXT.

“Competition breeds excellence. One thing I actually kind of miss is when we’d battle it out weekly on Wednesday nights. It was exciting, seeing who would have the better night. It makes you feel more alive.”

AEW Has Changed The Game

Continuing on, Jackson broke down how AEW has helped improve the industry for both fans and wrestlers. With regard to Dynamite more specifically, he explained that it gives wrestlers a big platform to truly express themselves.

Dynamite and the existence of AEW has created a much healthier economy for all of the people in the wrestling business,” he said. “So many of us have been blessed with the ability to provide for ourselves and our families for years to come. I don’t think that can be considered a bad thing to anyone, no matter who you’re a fan of.

Dynamite has given fans of a specific taste their weekly hit of dopamine. Dynamite has given wrestlers a large platform to express themselves creatively.”

On October 2nd, AEW Dynamite will celebrate its fifth anniversary. It’s already been announced that Ricochet will challenge Will Ospreay for the International Title on the show, while Britt Baker will make her return to the ring.
