AEW Dynasty Title Match Scrapped Due To Injury
AEW Dynasty hit by injury.
On April 6, AEW heads to the Liacouras Center, in Philadelphia for Dynasty.
In the main event, Jon Moxley will defend the World Championship against Swerve Strickland who is looking to win the gold for a second time. In a nice piece of symmetry that hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans, Strickland’s previous World Title win also came at Dynasty.
Elsewhere, “Timeless” Toni Storm will put her Women’s Championship on the line against Megan Bayne, while Kenny Omega defends the International Title against Ricochet and “Speedball” Mike Bailey.
In the other two title matches currently announced for the event, FTR and Cope will challenge the Death Riders of the World Trios Titles, and Chris Jericho puts the ROH World Title on the line in a “Title vs. Mask” match with Bandido.
Injury Forces AEW Change
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin are also expected to defend the World Tag Team Titles against Bryan Keith and Big Bill, although the match is yet to be announced.
However, this wasn’t the original plan, as Brian Cage and Lance Archer had been lined up for the match, but an injury to Cage forced the change.
The tag title match was a change as Brian Cage suffered a knee injury on an independent show on 3/20 in Los Angeles against Chris Masters. So the originally planned but not announced Hurt Syndicate vs. Murder Machines match had to be changed and they had to pivot to new challengers, going with Bill & Keith.
There’s no word on how long Cage will be out of action.
