AEW Dynamite Special To Celebrate Passing WCW Milestone
Tony Khan is not letting the chance to mark a major moment in AEW history go by as his company is set to surpass WCW.
On October 2 2019, the wrestling business was changed forever when AEW Dynamite debuted on TNT. That show kicked off with Cody Rhodes defeating Sammy Guevara before Riho became the first-ever AEW Women’s World Champion and Jake Hager made his surprise debut joining Chris Jericho’s Inner Circle.
With wrestling back on the Turner Networks, there were echoes of the first edition of WCW Nitro which debuted on September 4 1995 on the same station. That show saw Lex Luger make his shock debut for WCW and the Monday Night Wars were born.
But by March 2001, WCW was dead and Nitro ended with its 288th episode on March 26. And AEW is about to blow past that milestone very soon.
AEW Dynamite Surpassing WCW Nitro
Tony Khan took to social media to celebrate AEW passing WCW’s milestone with Dynamite outlasting Nitro as he promoted AEW Spring BreakThru for April 16 – Dynamite’s 289th episode:
Don’t miss Wednesday Night #AEWDynamite 289, Wednesday, April 16 in Boston, AEW Spring BreakThru! We’ll celebrate AEW Wednesday Night Dynamite becoming the longest running prime time weekly pro wrestling program in Turner Sports history! Thank you all watching #AEWCollision NOW!

That show will take place during WrestleMania week and many WWE fans want to see Sting induct Lex Luger into the WWE Hall of Fame. However, given Sting’s history in WCW and his place in history winning the final match on Nitro, The Icon could well be busy with AEW helping the company celebrate their achievement.
