AEW Dynamite Match Heavily Criticized By WWE Hall Of Famer
A WWE Hall of Famer thinks a recent tag team match on AEW television “fell short” of what it was supposed to be.
There was a No Disqualification tag team match on AEW Dynamite featuring Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford taking on Harley Cameron & Anna Jay. In this match, weapons were used and it was a bit of a mess.
Jay was legitimately bleeding from the nose after taking a move, while Harley Cameron went into the match with an injury and had fake blood on her face as part of a spot in the match. For the finish, Ford was supposed to hit Cameron with a Doomsday Device clothesline while Cameron was on Bayne’s shoulders, but it appeared as though Ford didn’t even touch Cameron, who still took the bump and was pinned.
When it comes to tag team wrestling, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray Dudley (aka Bully Ray) knows what he’s talking about. As one half of The Dudley Boyz, Bully knows how to put together a tag team match and deliver an excellent performance when it’s time to step into the ring.
While speaking on Busted Open After Dark, Bully criticized the match and, in particular, the individuals involved in organizing it.
“After it was all over, you know, it fell short. Harley got busted open. The finish was missed completely.
I’d be like girls E for effort. Great job. Putting so much thought into it. Cut it in half. Take 50% of all the stuff that you want to do and get rid of it, because it’s too f**king much. Nobody is going to remember it.”
AEW Producers Criticized For What Happened In Dynamite Match
Bully Ray occasionally wrestles these days while also helping to run a wrestling school and working as a coach on WWE LFG, in addition to his role on Busted Open Radio. His criticisms continued.
“None of you are experts at using furniture, none of you are experts at swinging chairs.
I want to know when these four women ever were able to practice their use of using weapons… I don’t know what makes anybody think that they’re just going to show up on a Wednesday night or a Saturday night and be proficient in this stuff and make it look good.”
It’s up to the producer/agent to get the talent ready for the match.
“It’s on the producer and the agent to protect the talent from themselves.
I would be asking Anna. Anna, let me see you swing a chair… Penelope, let me see you do this.”
As for the finish, Bully mentioned that the women also failed to execute it well.
“Harley became so gun shy from that [getting busted open] that when she was sitting on top of Megan’s shoulders, she was completely folded over because she didn’t want to get hit in the face again, thus creating absolutely no target for Penelope Ford to hit… So it looked really, really, really bad.
It’s a producer’s job to make sure that the women are positive, that they can execute on live TV. I don’t give a rat’s ass what you can do in practice. You have to be able to do it on television.”
AEW Owner and President Tony Khan stated recently that he wants to create Women’s Tag Team Titles. It’s not known when that might actually happen.
