There is some more information on who played a big part in putting together AEW’s latest battle royale at Double or Nothing.

The opening match on the pay-per-view portion of the AEW Double or Nothing event from last Sunday was the 21-man Blackjack Battle Royale.

It was a unique match where the International Champion Orange Cassidy defended his title in the match against 20 challengers. It would end up coming down to Orange Cassidy, Swerve Strickland, Big Bill & Penta as the final four.

Orange Cassidy and Swerve Strickland were the final two men in the match. They had an entertaining sequence of moves that saw each man nearly win multiple times. Cassidy ended up kicking Swerve after a battle on the apron. Cassidy retained the International Title yet again.

Fightful Select reports that many people within AEW noted that the company’s Owner/President/main booker Tony Khan played an integral role in laying out the battle royale match and putting it together. They noted that Tony plays a big role in every battle royal that AEW does while developing a knack for how they work.

In addition to that, Fightful reports that the finish of the match was determined the night before, so that allowed Orange and Swerve to have some input in terms of how the finish played out. Many people that were part of the match were very happy about how it ended up.

The report from Fightful noted that when the match was announced, some people didn’t know if they were going to be in it. There were discussions about having a Casino Battle Royale like AEW has done in the past, but they went with the Blackjack Battle Royale instead.
