AEW Considering Consolidating Titles

AEW Kenny Omega

The championship that Kenny Omega won at AEW Revolution could be merged with another title.

There are a lot of championships in AEW, especially for the company’s male wrestlers. In addition to the AEW World Title, male wrestlers can also hold the TNT Title, International Title, and Continental Title. There are also Tag Team Titles and Trios Tag Team Titles. That’s just AEW and not even counting all the titles on the ROH brand.

At AEW Revolution in Los Angeles, Kenny Omega captured the International Championship for the first time by beating Konosuke Takeshita. Omega is now a Grand Slam Champion in AEW since he’s also held the World Title, Tag Team Titles, and Trios Tag Team Titles.

For several months, there have been rumors of AEW potentially merging the International and Continental Titles. The Continental Title is held by Japanese wrestling legend Kazuchika Okada.

It has been reported by Fightful Select that combining the International and Continental Titles is something that has been pitched for a few months and it’s considered a “firm creative plan” at this point. However, it’s not known if they would form something collectively or rebranded it as a unified title.

Fightful added that they have not heard if an Okada vs. Omega match is specifically part of the plans. That’s a big match to do in AEW considering Omega and Okada had multiple classic matches in NJPW, which led to both of them becoming bigger stars.

The FTW Title, which was created by Taz in ECW in the 1990s, was brought to AEW. However, the company decided to put an end to that title in September 2024 since they already had a lot of men’s singles titles.

Kenny Omega Will Defend AEW International Title At Dynasty

At the second-ever Dynasty PPV in Philadelphia, Kenny Omega will have to defend his AEW International Title against whoever wins the eight-man International Championship Tournament that began on the March 12th episode of Dynamite.
