AEW Star Claims Company Doesn’t Want Them To Outshine Mercedes Mone

Mercedes Mone on AEW Dynamite

According to one AEW star the company is trying to protect Mercedes Mone.

Since signing with AEW in March 2024, Mercedes Mone has been presented as the biggest star in the women’s division and one of the biggest stars in the whole company. However, as another star is keen to point out, she isn’t the Women’s World Champion.

While Mone has been making the TBS Title her own, Mariah May stepped out of Toni Storm’s shadow to beat her for the World Title.

The feud between Storm and May has since been reignited, and Storm will challenge for the gold again at Grand Slam in Australia. This was followed by the former champion reverting to her “Timeless” persona after a beating at the hands of May.

During an interview on Casual Conversations with The Classic ahead of Storm’s timeless shift at Collision Homecoming, May said it was somewhat ridiculous she was going all the way to Australia to face a rookie.

“I’m gonna use the next, we got a little bit of time until Australia, so I’m gonna use those weeks to figure out what is going on. But ultimately, I’m flying all the way to Australia to wrestle a rookie. I think that’s a total and utter waste of my time and disrespectful to me as the world champion, but what’s new?

All AEW does is disrespect me and keep me backstage when I’m the best person they have on the mic, and I’m stuck backstage. So fine, fly me on a 24-hour flight to Australia to gratify and mentally unwell woman. That’s fine. It’s just another win.

What will that be, my eighth successful defense? I’m going on 150 days as of recording this? So fine, fine. Waste of my time, but we’ll do it,”

AEW Protecting Mercedes Mone

May reiterated that she felt disrespected by being kept backstage but would continue to be the best company woman she could be. However, she remains convinced that AEW is holding her down as the company doesn’t want her to outshine Mercedes Mone.

“I’m the most stand-up company woman, that’s why I’m doing the media that they have. It’s disrespectful. But they don’t want me out there because I’m gonna outshine their golden girl, Mercedes. That’s why,”

Mone and May have been taking subtle shots at each other in interviews for several weeks, seemingly laying the groundwork for a storyline feud in the future.

In December, Mariah May claimed Mercedes Mone had done little to help the AEW women’s division despite regularly talking about how she loves the company.
