AEW Collision Spoilers For July 1st

aew collision set

This week’s AEW Collision episode was taped two days before airing on Saturday, July 1st.

The first two episodes of AEW Collision were live shows, but this week they taped it. The venue was the same place as Dynamite on Wednesday: The FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, Ontario.

This Saturday, July 1st is Canada Day, which means it’s the 156th birthday of the country. If AEW tried to do a live taping on July 1st anywhere in Canada, attendance would likely be very low since it’s a national holiday and people are out doing other things that don’t involve going to a wrestling show.

Going into the show, AEW President Tony Khan tweeted about how CM Punk would be on commentary for the Owen Hart Cup match between Samoa Joe and Roderick Strong because Punk will face the winner next week in the tournament semifinals next Saturday. AEW also promoted that this week’s Collision episode will be the first time the AEW World Champion MJF wrestles on Collision.

Check out the full results below with thanks to PWInsiderElite and WrestlingHeadlines:

* AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) defeated Kip Morst with the LeBell Lock submission move.

MJF did a promo saying he’ll beat anybody from Hamilton and he’ll put the AEW World Title on the line. A heavyset wrestler appeared, but Hamilton’s own Ethan Page shoved the guy out of the way and went down to the ring. Ethan cut a babyface promo in his hometown while telling MJF that he doesn’t know what Ethan is capable of. Ethan talked about what his father taught him in life.

* AEW World Champion MJF defeated Ethan Page in what was called a “damn good back and forth match.” MJF was wearing the red, white, and blue colors of the United States to antagonize the Canadian crowd. There were a lot of nearfalls in the match. MJF won with a leaping piledriver and used the ropes for leverage during the pin.

* Powerhouse Hobbs defeated Dustin Rhodes in the Owen Hart Cup Tournament Semifinals. Hobbs won with a spinebuster.

* Miro defeated Anthony Henry by submission.

The Bullet Club Gold group consisting of Jay White, Juice Robinson and The Gunns (Austin & Colten Gunn) were interviewed in the ring by Tony Schiavone. The Bullet Club Gold guys were informed by Tony Schiavone that they were barred from ringside for Juice’s match against Ricky Starks. Jay White took a shot at CM Punk calling himself the “Best in the World” and referenced Punk having a goodie bag – the AEW World Title that Punk had with him on the first episode of Collision. The Gunns are coming after FTR’s Tag Team Titles as well. The foursome of CM Punk, FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) and Ricky Starks appeared on the video screen to say they are ready to fight.

* Ricky Starks defeated Juice Robinson in the Quarterfinals of the Owen Hart Cup Tournament. After the match, Bullet Club Gold looked like they would attack, but CM Punk and FTR made the save as the heels retreated.

* TBS Champion Kris Statlander defeated Lady Frost.

* The ROH TV Champion Samoa Joe defeated Roderick Strong in the Quarterfinals of the Owen Hart Cup Tournament. CM Punk was on commentary. It ended by referee stoppage when Joe had Strong in the Coquina Clutch.

After the match, Joe used a steel chair to attack Strong. CM Punk went into the ring and Joe backed away. Adam Cole showed up to check on his buddy Strong, who was taken away on a stretcher. That was the end of the taping.

That means the two Men’s Semifinals matches in the Owen Hart Cup Tournament are CM Punk vs. Samoa Joe and Ricky Starks vs. Powerhouse Hobbs. Those two matches will take place on Collision next week on July 8th. Also for July 8th on Collision is FTR vs. Jay White & Juice Robinson and Athena vs. Willow Nightingale.

There were also ROH tapings on Thursday night as well.
