AEW Chants Erupt After John Cena’s Retirement, Fans Angry With WWE And Triple H
John Cena’s WWE retirement match headlined Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13, 2025, at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
The winner of the “Last Time Is Now” tournament, Gunther, faced Cena in a brutal main event.
The finish saw The Ring General lock in a sleeper hold on Cena. The Last Real Champion fought with all his might, but ultimately tapped out, smiling.
This marked his first submission loss in over 20 years.
While Cena appeared to be at peace with his loss, his fans didn’t take it so well.
After Triple H and the locker room came out to pay their respects to Cena, fans lashed out at HHH and booed him heavily.
This happened again at the SNME post-show panel, but The Game brushed it off with a playful comment directed at the fans.
During the panel, fans also voiced their disappointment with WWE and Triple H by making loud “AEW” chants.
HHH didn’t respond to those chants, but it seemingly affected him because he faltered in his words for a split second.

Triple H Comments on John Cena’s WWE Future
The post-show panel also saw Triple H address John Cena’s future in WWE. The WWE Chief Creative Officer confirmed that although Cena has retired from in-ring competition, he’s still very much a part of WWE.
“John Cena’s passion for WWE didn’t end tonight. John Cena’s in-ring career ended tonight, his competitor stature,” Triple H said.
Last week, Cena shared that he signed a new WWE deal, taking on the role of brand ambassador for five years.
“I will be an ambassador to WWE. I’m already signed on for another five years. I was like, “Please, as long as you can do it. I would like to be in this family as an employee, as a contributing part for as long as I can”, Cena said.
