Why AEW Changed Strategy About Putting Full Matches Online
AEW fans can now watch some historically significant matches after the company changed its strategy regarding historical content.
For the past six years, AEW has consistently put on great matches, whether on television or pay-per-view broadcasts. Critics of the company can target several aspects that they believe the company has done wrong, but most wrestling fans would agree that they have had some incredible matches during their run.
One issue that AEW fans have faced in the past is that the company doesn’t post many past matches on its YouTube channel, which currently has over 4.5 million subscribers.
If WWE or TNA fans want to see historical content, they can visit the YouTube channels of those companies and find it. Many other WWE-related channels have been released, including WWE Vault, WCW, NXT, and more.
Recently, AEW began posting some historically significant matches on their channel, including Bryan Danielson vs. Zack Sabre Jr. from WrestleDream 2023 and Christian Cage vs. Darby Allin, also from WrestleDream 2023.
AEW Trying Different Strategy For YouTube Content
Fightful Select reports that it’s part of AEW’s new strategy to drive traffic towards their streaming content. In the match descriptions, the company also promotes its HBO Max services. Fightful noted that WrestleDream isn’t available in full on the HBO Max service, but the company is encouraging people to check out HBO Max for more content.
There is also a Jon Moxley-Joey Janela match from 2019 that features no commentary because the company wants to see people sharing clips online and how they respond to the match highlights without commentary.
AEW’s Owner Tony Khan believes that the company is “Where The Best Wrestle” and it’s a mantra that he believes in.
“When I say that this is where the best wrestle, it’s the truth, and it sums up exactly what makes AEW stand out in the wrestling industry. Historically, we have this amazing roster and some of the greatest moments and rivalries in wrestling are happening, and we’re on a great run of shows right now.”
The next AEW PPV is their biggest show of the year, All In Texas, on July 12th.
