AEW Champions Never Supposed To Win Title

Tony Khan AEW

There were plenty of titles on the line at AEW Full Gear, but it seems there are champions in the company who were never meant to hold gold at all.

Full Gear saw Jon Moxley cruelly hang onto the AEW World Championship despite the best efforts of Orange Cassidy while Daniel Garcia captured the TNT Title from Jack Perry as he looks to take his career to the next level.

The pay-per-view in Newark, however, kicked off with a four-way match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship as Private Party defended their title against The Acclaimed, Kings of the Black Throne, and The Outrunners. Zay and Quen held onto their gold in a wild opener but it seems their entire title reign was never part of AEW’s plans.

Tony Khan Made Huge Change For AEW Title

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez explained that Tony Khan changed direction after The Young Bucks defeated Private Party at WrestleDream and decided to have Zay and Quen defeat The Bucks for the AEW World Tag Team Title after all – something that happened on Fright Night Dynamite:

Private Party was never supposed to be the tag team champions. They were going to lose to The Young Bucks at that last pay-per-view Wrestle Dream and then they were gonna move on to whatever was next. Apparently, Tony watched the match and was so impressed he decided to put the belts on Private Party.

The Young Bucks have disappeared from AEW TV after their loss as they refused to stand up for the company they helped create against the destructive forces of Jon Moxley and his Death Riders.
