Former AEW Champion Hasn’t Asked To Leave Company
Tony Khan has knocked back yet more AEW speculation.
On July 2, reports emerged claiming that Britt Baker not only wanted to leave AEW but was taking steps to get out of her contract. The report suggested that the former Women’s World Champion felt the landscape of the company had changed around her, and her position was uncertain.
It was noted that Baker felt there was nothing left for her to achieve with the company and was taking steps to leave. Despite this, AEW was said to have no intention of allowing her to break her contract.
However, a further report from Fightful Select claimed that Britt Baker wasn’t trying to leave, with several sources stating that they hadn’t heard of any such conversations.
So what’s the real story?
AEW Boss Tony Khan Gives Update On Britt Baker
During the media call ahead of All In, Tony Khan was asked by Rick Ucchino about Baker and her current status. But right off the bat, Khan denied ever having a conversation with Baker about her leaving the company.
“I’ve never had a conversation about Britt departing AEW.”
The AEW President added that there are several talents who haven’t worked much or at all in 2025, but he said that doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to work with them.
“We have a great group of wrestlers that have not necessarily been on the show a lot, or even in some cases at all in 2025, that are very talented and we would like to work back in when the opportunity presents itself.”
With regard to Baker more specifically, Khan left the door open for her to return to television in the future when creative calls for it.
“That applies to a number of women and men that are not necessarily being featured right now, but we could bring in that would be a great focus on the show as those spots open up. And the timing is right to integrate different people into the show…
I think Britt’s a great example of somebody that’s very, very talented and we could utilize in AEW in the right situation at the right time,” Khan said. “Just like in pro sports, when you have some really talented people that aren’t necessarily starting every game at that point, it doesn’t mean they won’t be starting in the future.”
It’s believed that Baker’s AEW contract runs until late 2026, with the caveat that, due to injury time added, she may be tied to the promotion into 2027.
