AEW Announcer Taz Details Recovery From Surgery
Taz is on the mend.
On November 2nd, Taz was written off television following an attack in the parking lot ahead of Dynamite.
The attack was a way of leaving the former ECW Champion free to undergo knee surgery. In recent years the star has been open about his injury issues, with one report noting that his wife had been pushing him to seek treatment.
The announcer joined AEW in 2019 having been out of the industry since leaving TNA in 2015.
Taz Reflects On “Brutal” Knee Issues
During an appearance on The Infamous Smoke Show, the veteran said he’d be hoping to avoid surgery until he was 65, but there came a point where he was unable to walk.
“I tried everything…I’m 57, right, so I wanted to wait until I was 65 to get the replacement. I just could wait. It was just brutal. I couldn’t go to work, I couldn’t walk in an arena backstage. I couldn’t walk in airports. You go to make a connection flight, and I got too much pride to get wheeled around. I’m just not gonna do that. Yeah, whatever. I got my own f*cking issues, right? [Laughs]”
With the surgery now behind him, Taz said he’s doing physical therapy three days a week, while also doing therapy at home.
“The knee replacement thing, I’m recovering. I’m doing a lot of physical therapy now, three days a week. I do a lot of home therapy too. You gotta really work out that prosthetic and the quad and all that. I was always nervous to get it done, but I’m only five weeks out, and if you need it, get it done because I already feel relief. The arthritis is gone. It’s nice,”
During a recent episode of his podcast, Jim Ross dismissed the idea that Taz was planning an in-ring comeback, commenting that his partner at the announce booth was simply looking to improve his quality of life.
There’s no word on when Taz will return to AEW television.
