Adam Copeland Knows What He Wants In Final AEW Match
The man known as Cope (Adam Copeland) has ideas about what his final AEW match could look like.
For over 25 years, Adam Copeland was known as WWE Hall of Famer Edge. As Edge, he won all the titles that somebody could win while building a career as one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time.
In October 2023, Adam Copeland decided to walk away from WWE after his contract expired and he joined AEW. A lengthy feud with best friend Christian Cage followed, which led to Cope becoming a two-time TNT Champion.
At the Double or Nothing PLE in May 2024, Adam Copeland jumped off the top of a steel cage onto Malakai Black and broke his leg when he landed. Copeland ended up missing the rest of the year before returning to start 2025.
What Kind Of Retirement Match Does Adam Copeland Want?
Adam Copeland’s pro wrestling career started over 30 years ago and at age 51, he knows the end is near. In an interview with Stephen Brunt on Up Close, Copeland talked about how many years he has left in the ring and also what kind of final match he would want to have.
“That’s going to be the big decision for me. Who do I get in there with last? I’d love to get in there with a young person and just try and strap a rocket to him. In my last match, what can I do to try to get someone set up? Or at least another block in the foundation to set them up to be able to take it further and further.
I think to Bret [Hart], and I take his example, and I look at what he did for me. He didn’t need to do that. He didn’t need to put that time in and need to care, but he did. That really taught me the whole giving back is true. I don’t want to be the old guy who is hanging on.
I want to wrestle somebody who I feel is going to be part of the future of AEW and just have fun, and experience it together, and after go, ‘Take it and run.’ I’m thinking maybe two years. Being off with a broken leg has kind of extended it. Six months that I’ve been off, tack that on.”
During another recent interview, Adam Copeland said he wants to team up with his best friend Christian Cage again. In terms of storyline, that may be difficult since Cage is one of the top heels in AEW and Cope is a babyface, so something will have to change for the best friends to reunite again.
