Adam Copeland Closing On AEW Return
Tony Khan has given an update on Adam Copeland.
At Double or Nothing, Adam Copeland went to war with Malakai Black in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage Match.
Although the veteran grabbed the win and retained his TNT Championship, he broke his leg while jumping from the top of the cage to put Black through a table.
Copeland quickly underwent surgery and now has a steel plate in his leg, but he wasted little time in working on a comeback. However, as of early September, he admitted there was no timetable for him to get back in the ring, but he was already putting in the work.
Tony Khan Hopeful Over Adam Copeland
During the post-Full Gear press conference, Tony Khan was asked about Copeland as he continues his recovery. Khan said he’s hopeful the veteran will be back in the near future, adding that he’s been sorely missed by all in the company.
“We’ve been missing him very, very much. He was doing so great this year for us as the TNT Champion. We really missed the ‘Rated-R Superstar’ so much, and I can’t wait to hopefully get him back at some point in the near future.
It was really a devastating thing, but we’re very blessed to have such a great roster in AEW because everybody really stepped up. When you lose somebody so valuable to the team like Adam Copeland, it’s always going to hurt.
As soon as we can get him back, it’s going to make a huge positive difference to have Adam back on this team. We really missed the ‘Rated-R Superstar,’ and it was one of those really hard things that happened at the MGM Grand at Double or Nothing when we temporarily lost Adam from the roster. Whenever he gets back, we’re going to be so excited.”
Speaking ahead of the event, Tony Khan said he wants Kenny Omega back in AEW as soon as possible as the former World Champion approaches a year out of the ring.
Despite Omega being a key figure within AEW, he’ll make his in-ring comeback in Japan against Gabe Kidd at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5th. The cross-promotional event featuring talent from AEW, CMLL, Stardom, ROH, and CMLL will take place 24 hours after Wrestle Kingdom 19.
