AEW Tapings Vital For Asheville, North Carolina According To Adam Copeland

Adam Copeland wants to do the right thing.

On January 1st, AEW kicks off its new era with Dynamite Fight For The Fallen live from Asheville, North Carolina.

The city, which was recently devastated by Hurricane Helene, is the current home of Adam Copeland so it’s no surprise that the taping will be a special one for the WWE Hall of Famer.

Adam Copeland returned to AEW at Worlds End, backing up FTR as they took the fight to the Death Riders. This set up a huge six-man tag team match between Copeland and FTR and Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta.

During a new interview with Rick Ucchino for The Takedown on SI, gave an insight into how the people of Asheville had come together in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

“My brother-in-law and I found a highway to get outta town. We’d fill up on supplies, fill up the pickup truck, come back and get out and just start getting supplies out to people. And that’s what a lot of people did.

If their homes weren’t affected, if they didn’t lose anyone, they got out and they got working. So many of the churches here were great organizational depots, to be able to take things or [say we need] deliverers. Okay, right. I got a pickup truck, let’s go.”

Copeland went on to explain why Fight For The Fallen is so important to the city.

“Historically Asheville’s not necessarily a wrestling town. For a while NWA ran here weekly, back in the eighties, but at some point it just became a non-wrestling town. I don’t know if that’s changed, but it felt like coming here was the right thing to do to try and help this community.

Entertainment is one of the things that gets people through. A TV show, a game, pro wrestling, a concert, whatever it is, take your pick. That’s what it’s for. And it’s really important for people. And I think the pandemic really highlighted that for folks.”

The taping will also feature a huge singles bout between Hangman Adam Page and Orange Cassidy. The pair both came up short in the Worlds End main event as Jon Moxley retained the World Championship.

Meanwhile, Julia Hart will take on Jamie Hayter in her first match since losing the TBS Championship to Willow Nightingale at Dynasty back in April. In the days leading up to the match, Hart suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery.

In the only other match announced for the taping, Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin team up to face The Acclaimed.
