Adam Copeland Lifts Lid On AEW Double Or Nothing Leg Break
Adam Copeland is working on yet another comeback.
At AEW Double or Nothing, Adam Copeland retained his TNT Title with a win over Malakai Black in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage Match. However, that was only part of the story.
During the match, Copeland came off the top of the cage, in an effort to put Black out of action once and for all. But instead of helping secure a glorious victory, the leap ended with the veteran breaking his leg after landing almost feet first in the ring.
Appearing on Busted Open Radio, Copeland reflected on the match and dismissed potentially changing his character when he returns. He explained that his current persona is so close to who he is in real life, that the latest injury just adds another layer to his story.
Part of me goes, ‘Well, you recreate yourself.’ But each injury kind of adds itself to the character that I was already portraying, which — to be honest — is not that far removed from me at this point,” Copeland said.
“I don’t know how much I change, honestly. I think it’s just one more instance of, like, grizzled vet fighting back from another one.”
Copeland went on to say he hopes the match is a reminder of what his opponent can bring to the table.
“I think I could have got the same mileage if I did it off the top rope. So, live and learn. But at the same time, I finished the match,
Hopefully also throughout this story, it’s a reminder of what [Malakai] Black brings to the table. And kind of just let people understand, ‘Oh yeah, by the way, there’s this group of badasses that have an insane presentation.’ So, a few missions accomplished and a setback.”
Adam Copeland Already Training For Comeback
Despite being almost 51 with nearly 30 years of life in the ring behind him, Adam Copeland was back in the gym just 12 hours after undergoing surgery. In a video on social media, the star joked that as he couldn’t compete at Forbidden Door, he created his own forbidden door — the door to his gym.
Although he was on crutches, Copeland then filmed himself planking.
