Adam Cole made his surprising return to AEW on Dynamite and the way it happened was very unique because of how he was hidden before his return took place on television.

The January 11th edition of AEW Dynamite took place at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. In the first hour of the show, Tony Schiavone was in the ring and made the introduction for somebody without saying who it was. That’s when the music of Adam Cole hit as the former WWE NXT Champion made his entrance to a huge ovation.

During his promo, Cole said that the good news is that he’s got a whole new appreciation for not just pro wrestling, but for his life. Cole said that he had a shoulder that was torn to shreds, two very serious head injuries (serious concussions) and he was seeing doctors all the time. Cole said if he was in a car for 15 minutes he would feel like he needed to vomit and he did vomit. Cole talked about how he couldn’t sleep while telling Britt (his girlfriend Britt Baker) that he would look at her with a tear in her eye because he didn’t know what was happening.

Cole also informed the audience that he was back. Cole said that his career was over, he thought he was finished and now he stands there saying: “No way, I ain’t done yet.” Cole said he hasn’t scratched the surface of what he’s capable of. Cole said that this is the day when the “new Adam Cole is born.” Cole said one day one man will be at the top of the mountain here in AEW and his name is… “Adam Cole bay bay!”

The last time Adam Cole wrestled was at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view on June 26th, so he missed over six months of action due to serious concussion issues.

What’s interesting about Cole’s return is that it was hidden from a lot of people in AEW. Fightful Select reported that a “TBD promo” segment was listed on Dynamite’s internal run sheet after the Hangman Page/Jon Moxley match.

It was also revealed on Twitter by one of AEW’s drivers that Cole hid from fans at the arena by laying down in between the front and back seats of the car he was in.

On Twitter, Cole’s fellow AEW wrestler and girlfriend Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. tweeted about how tough things were for Cole while dealing with the concussion issues. Cole thanked her for supporting him.
