Adam Cole Discusses Wrestling on WWE Raw, Smackdown and NXT, CM Punk, More
One could argue that no one had a bigger November in professional wrestling than Adam Cole. Cole recently sat down with Sports Illustrated to talk about how the last few weeks have been for him, and if he feels like it has changed him as a performer.
“Absolutely, and that is strictly based on experience. When I look back at these past few weeks, having that main event match with Daniel Bryan on Smackdown and some high-profile moments on Raw, I’m no longer just hoping it goes well. I am focused and ready to go.”
Cole then went on to discuss the Wednesday Night Wars with AEW, and if he keeps an eye on the TV ratings every week.
“I do not want to speak for everyone, but for the people I speak with most often, we want to control the areas we can control. And that has nothing to do with the ratings. We are completely focused on putting on the best two-hour show we possibly can. We need to deliver great matches and incredible stories. I’m sure they feel the same way [in AEW], focusing on having the best show possible and doing all they can do to entertain fans. In the end, we’re getting some really, really exciting pro wrestling, and that’s what it’s all about in 2019.”
Cole then went on to discuss his relationship with AEW star and his girlfriend, Britt Baker.
“It’s wonderful. I’m her biggest supporter and she’s mine, and it’s been really cool watching her do her thing, though it’s been really hard to see each other these past few weeks with our schedules. We actually started off long-distance, so that’s made it a little bit easier. Even if we go four or five days without seeing each other, we’re a little used to that from the beginning of our relationship.”
Finally, Cole discussed what it was like to be on the stage when CM Punk debuted on WWE: Backstage and if Punk would fit in the Undisputed Era.
“Everyone who has followed me knows that CM Punk has been a major influence of mine, especially on the independent scene. He was a guy I looked up to and studied, and someone I really, really enjoyed watching. It was so cool to be there and see him on Backstage, and I had no idea that was going to happen.”
“The Undisputed Era, the four that we are, couldn’t get any better. We’re the flag-bearers of the NXT brand, and we are perfect the way we are. I wouldn’t add a male, I wouldn’t add a female, and we won’t add CM Punk.”
Matt’s Musings: The sky is the limit for Adam Cole who is already one of the best wrestlers in the world today. If Cole eventually moves to the main roster, hopefully he will be used properly and not get lost in the shuffle as many former NXT stars have before him.
