Accidental WWE Champion Breaks Silence After Surprise Title Win

Have you ever become a WWE champion by complete accident? This star has.

Mistakes happen in the wrestling ring, whether it’s Ronda Rousey getting her shoulder up during the pin in the main event of WrestleMania 35 or a referee supposedly trying to do something unspeakable to Ted DiBiase Jr. when he messed up the finish to a multi-man tag match. Thankfully, none of these mistakes caused any injury, and that was the case on the December 16th edition of NXT as well, although this mistake still might have hurt.

That show saw Blake Monroe put the NXT Women’s North American Championship on the line against Thea Hail. What was predicted by many to be – and what was meant to be – a routine title defence for The Glamour turned into anything but.

Hail attempted to pin Monroe, and for reasons unknown, Monroe could only get her hand off the mat rather than her shoulder, leading the referee to count the fall and declare Thea Hail the winner and the new champion.

Hail’s win is believed to have sent creative forces into a frenzy backstage, with several things changed in the wake of Hail’s surprise championship victory.
