84-Year-Old Wrestling Legend Breaks Record In New Match
An 84-year-old wrestling star has broken the record for the oldest man to ever compete in the squared circle.
The wrestling world was left in mourning in August 2023 when the legendary Terry Funk passed away. In tribute to Funk, his brother, Dory Funk Jr, paid tribute in the best way he could when he took part in a Double Hell Current Explosion Death Match at a Terry Funk memorial show in Japan in 2024. That was despite Dory Funk Jr then being at the age of 83.
However, his record of the oldest man to ever compete in a wrestling ring appears to have been broken by a British wrestling legend.
Kendo Nagasaki Breaks Male Wrestling Record
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that the record for the oldest man to compete in a wrestling match had been broken as British star Kendo Nagasaki got in the ring at the age of 84:
Kendo Nagasaki wrestled, I believe, Saturday night in London. I didn’t hear anything about how he did or anything. As best we can tell, he’s 84 years old. He’s just a couple of months younger than Dory Funk Jr.
I saw on Wikipedia that there was a listing that he’s 79, but people have told me he’s actually 84. When he wrestled a year ago, he was 83, but Dory Funk Jr, when he wrestled last August with Onita in the Terry Funk Memorial Show, would have been the oldest male wrestler to do a match.
It’s too old to do a pro wrestling match. Mae Young is considered the oldest wrestler to have a match, but the match she had at 87 was not a match; she just walked out there and put her foot on somebody. Kendo did a match at 84 on Saturday, so he’d be the oldest guy ever to do a match, beating the record of Dory Jr.
WWE Hall of Famer Mae Young’s match at the age of 87 took place on the November 15th, 2010 edition of Raw. She accepted the challenge of a two-on-one no disqualification match against Michelle McCool and Layla. LayCool were laid out by a whole host of WWE stars, allowing Young to simply cover them for the victory.
