Despite increased speculation online, a former World Champion will be staying with WWE.

After suffering a Lisfranc injury in October 2024 that he feared might end his career, AJ Styles has been back to his best since returning to action in the 2025 Royal Rumble.

Since that return, Styles has been a regular on Monday Night Raw, picking up wins over the likes of Karrion Kross, Finn Balor, Chad Gable, and most recently, JD McDonagh. However, that hasn’t stopped speculation around his future.

AJ Styles Staying With WWE

In recent days, there’s been an increase in speculation around Styles, with the word retirement never far from the conversation. There have even been rumours that he could look to move to AEW before finally retiring.

However, it seems that neither of those theories is correct. According to a new report from Fightful Select, Styles has signed a one-year extension with WWE, but exactly when the deal was made official remains unclear.

In 2024, there were reports that Styles’ contract would soon be expiring, but he suffered an injury, and with any time added, his deal would likely have been up by now.

Styles did have talks with The Young Bucks in 2019, but those talks didn’t go very far, and he ultimately decided to stay with WWE. At the time, he suggested it was the last contract he would sign.

Speaking back in March, AJ Styles promised that he wouldn’t wrestle past his 50th birthday, meaning he has a maximum of 23 months left in the ring if he sticks to that timeline. In recent years, the star has been open about his desire to retire with WWE.
